Our Story
Becoming a mother changes everything – including the way you look at your wardrobe.
Many women know the feeling: the clothes you wore during pregnancy no longer fit quite right, while traditional nursing wear is often practical but rarely stylish. At the same time, despite sleepless nights, feeding schedules, and the challenges of motherhood, you still want to feel like yourself.
That is exactly why cléo & tonie was created.
We met during a postnatal recovery course – a time filled with change, new routines, and countless questions. It quickly became clear that we shared the same frustration:
Why does maternity and nursing wear have to be either functional or beautiful?
As a women's health physician and a fashion designer, we brought different perspectives to the table. Together, we set out to create modern nursing wear that supports women throughout pregnancy, breastfeeding, and beyond.
Every product we create is inspired by the experiences, challenges, and needs we have faced ourselves as mothers.
Our first product
The idea for cléo & tonie started with a simple question:
Why is there so little nursing wear that women truly enjoy wearing?
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the body is constantly changing. Many garments are designed to be worn for only a few months or focus purely on functionality. We wanted to create something different.
That's why we developed our first product: a timeless nursing sweater that fits effortlessly into everyday life, looks beautiful, and makes breastfeeding easy.
A piece designed not only for the nursing stage, but one that remains a favorite long after.
From this very first product, the idea for an entire brand gradually came to life.
What cléo & tonie stands for
We believe that women shouldn't have to compromise during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and the everyday realities of motherhood.
Not between function and style. Not between comfort and quality. And not between being a mother and staying true to who they are.
That's why we create clothing designed to make everyday life easier while remaining beautiful and relevant for years to come. Thoughtful functionality meets timeless design — creating pieces that support women through many stages of life.
The story behind the name
The name cléo & tonie comes from our daughters — our daily inspiration and the starting point for so many of our ideas.
Even our first logo concepts were born from a special family moment: Julia's daughter Lotte drew penguins. To this day, they remain part of our brand and symbolize the values that matter most to us — care, connection, and family.
Values we don't just believe in, but strive to weave into every product we create.
